It’s Time To Update Your LinkedIn Profile
Are you using LinkedIn as part of your marketing plan? If so, there are some changes that have been made in how it handles your posts and updates and how your communications are presented to LinkedIn contacts. Also there are some great stats and information that is now available to you.
- LinkedIn has changed the order for your home feed. Just as when facebook made the same change in March, LinkedIn is prioritizing who sees your posts and what posts are on top (updates with the most likes, shares or comments). This will effect your results since not all your posts are given priority.
- When you want to see all of the updates in your feed, you will have to use the pull down and select the “All Updates” button and click on the down arrow. If you want to see just the recent updates (some of your updates may be older but more popular) you have to Choose “Recent” to see real-time updates. You will have to do this each time you log into LinkedIn if you want to decide what you see.
- LinkedIn now has keywords available to show you the keywords people used to find you and where your reviewers were referred from. As you move your cursor over the circles you can see more data about those who have found you. This keyword data helps you see if the content in your profile is attracting people. This also gives you a chance to change that content to appeal to the keywords you want to be found under. The number of views for keywords should be higher for your chosen company or job description. If not, change it.
- Review your profile and make sure you have a comprehensive summary and full description under each job or skill, which should increase the likelihood your profile will get found. In the case of a Company page, do the same. You probably set up your LinkedIn long ago and have not reviewed it for some time so take a new eye to it and see if your descriptions still fit your experience or your company today.
- Since the majority of people find your profile because of something you post (a status update) which showed up in their feed, it is even more imperative that you post more status updates to increase the number of people who view your profile. Consider also posting your information and updates to your groups to increase your reach.
- LinkedIn shows you the people who have viewed your profile – where they live and work! It gives you location and title information about the people viewing your profile but you will need the paid account for LinkedIn if you want to know who and where specifically is viewing your information.
- If you decide to become a paid member of LinkedIn, for every circle of data, you could see the profile information of people who viewed your profile. You can then email them and directly have a conversation. This is only worth it if you are going to use the data to either monitor the activity or to engage in communication with those you are hoping to meet or connect.
