Facebook Business Page Changes 7/2014

A Streamlined Look for Pages

Screen shot 2014-06-30 at 3.05.26 PMFacebook began rolling out a streamlined look for Pages on desktop that will make it easier for people to find the information they want and help Page admins find the tools they use most. Here are the key features of the update:

Updated Page timeline design

The right-side column of your timeline now displays all your Page’s posts. This one-column display means that all of your posts will appear consistently on your Page and in News Feed.

The left-side column of your timeline features information about your business, including a map, your hours of business, phone number and website URL, as well as photos and videos. Take some time to update it if it is not accurate.

Easier access to key admin tools

No matter where you are on your Page, you can now view information about the ads you’re running and new likes on your Page, as well unread notifications and messages. You can click on any section in the This Week area for more detail.

They’ve also added new navigation options to the top of the Page, making it easier to access your activity, insights and settings. The Build Audience menu at the top of the Page offers direct access to your Ads Manager account.

Pages to Watch

As facebook tweaks the new design of Pages, they are opening up the new Pages to Watch feature in the Page Insights tool to all admins. Pages to Watch allows admins to create a list of Pages similar to their own and compare the performance of their Page with that of the businesses they care about.FB Pages to watch

On the “Overview” tab of Page Insights admins will see some key stats about the Pages they are watching. The “Posts” tab of Page Insights includes a feature to view the past week’s most engaging posts from the Pages you’re watching.

Thumbnail App Tabs have been moved. Your tabs no longer exist as boxes immediately below your cover photo like this on the left:

Instead the Apps now show up in the left hand column under a section called “APPS” and also appear under the “More” drop down tab like this on the right:

So users will have to search harder for your apps as facebook continues to work to keep them on facebook. Now your apps open up windows inside facebook instead of linking out of the program. It still works but it means that you will need to work harder to share the apps and use facebook boosts when you have something special to emphasize in your posts.

Whatever you do, make sure to check your facebook page and see if the changes put your best foot forward, and if not, redesign your page and update your facebook strategy. Remember always move the content to your website and push visitors from facebook to your website where you rule the design. Because one thing is guaranteed, just as soon as you get comfortable with using social media as a marketing tool, they will change it and you will have to do so as well.
